A buggy test build of Android 2.3 Gingerbread appears to have been leaked from our favorite source for all things HTC oddity: 911HTC! They’ve got a big fat build by the name of Mecha GINGERBREAD S Verizon WWE 2.01.605.0_ Radio_0.01.69.0501r_ _NV_8K_1.41_ 9K_1.64_test_190987.zip – all that make sense to you? It doesn’t have to! All you need to know is that Gingerbread is more than likely on its way to Verizon’s HTC ThunderBolt, and by the looks of it, it’s coming soon!
Before we continue I’ve of course got to warn you that ROMs in test stages such as this are often beyond buggy to the point where should you use them you really ought to prepare yourself for something rather broken. Be sure to back up your current build if you plan on working with this one, Read the rest of this entry
It looks like overnight some good things happened for the Android and HTC hacking communities. We have what appears to be confirmation that there is a HTC Doubleshot coming to T-Mobile, as well as a leaked build of Gingerbread for the G2. Earlier we mentioned the G2 should have Gingerbread by summer, but things are looking like that might be coming sooner than later.
The guys from 911Sniper have what looks to be leaked builds of Android 2.3 Gingerbread for both devices, the HTC Doubleshot we still don’t know much about, and the G2 that we all know and love already. I am told both leaks are more for developers or cooks, and you should be able to make a nice Gingerbread ROM for the G2 and other HTC devices with these files. Feel free to open them up and look around if you’d like.
According to some recent information and from what people are saying about this HTC DoubleShot leak, the Doubleshot is real, and coming to T-Mobile. There is no keys or buttons and it looks like it will possibly be a MyTouch4G Slide, coming with a full slide QWERTY Keyboard. This is not confirmed yet, but we will update you all on that as we hear it.
Just as I’m sure many of you like to do. We here at AC love to see all the great work the dev’s over at XDA Developers do. Today I have some news about a very nice Port for the Motorola DroidX and the Droid 2. Over in the forums they’ve built a nice Gingerbread Themed ROM using the SDK. So all you Big Red Moto users don’t have to wait for an Official Gingerbread OTA. Get your Gingerbread now.
Whats Even more exciting is you can add as much, or as little of the “MotoBlur” UI as you’d like. This is basically a stock Android 2.2.1 build that has been themed very well to look, act, & feel like Gingerbread. It looks great. If you’d like to know more or see how this port has came along you can read here where we told you about this Rom back in December when it was first getting off the ground. As always with flashing a Rom or any zip, be careful and do a nandroid backup first. They are lifesavers. I will mention the DX & Droid 2 are some of the easiest phones to brick so as always, Use caution.
Note: Users coming from 1.3.1 may be safe to keep data and cache. If there are problems, then factory reset.
-Uninstall updates to Market, Gmail, ADW Launcher, & Search if they’re there under Settings->Applications->Manage Applications first.
-Place file on your sdcard. Bootstrap recovery and reboot recovery
-Select Factory Reset (delete data/cache)
-Return to previous menu and install .zip from sd card
-Choose ApeX and install!
