iPhone 5 Leak from China?

With evidence mounting that the iPhone 5 is coming in the fall, here is some more fuel for the fire. A new Chinese case design found on Alibaba.com, which is a business-to-business trading site for Chinese manufacturers and suppliers, claiming to be for the iPhone 5G. It is worth taking a look at as Chinese manufacturers often get design specs before the official launch.

The picture surfaced on GadgetsDNA, and shows two holes in the back of the case, one for the camera and one for…we’re not sure. Also, it seems to show a display that extends to the edge of the case with a thinner bezel. There has been evidence that has surfaced that Apple is planning a significant reworking of the iPhone with the iPhone 5, and other evidence that seems to indicate a more moderate update, maybe an iPhone 4S.

Apple iPhone 4, App Store, Angry Birds Awarded Guiness World Records

The Guinness World Records is at it again, dealing out awards for various unusual feats. No category or industry sector is left untouched, with one of the previous awards going to Kinect as the fastest selling consumer electronics device. Today, new awards go out to Apple’s iPhone 4, the Apple App Store, and even Angry Birds.

The iPhone 4 has been named as the fastest-selling portable gaming system, after an estimated 1.5 million iPhone 4 handsets were sold on the first day of release back on June 24, 2010. In comparison, the PSP only sol 200,000 units on its launch date in 2005, and the DS took two weeks to move 500,000 units after its launch in 2004. However, neither of those devices functioned also as a smartphone, those this award’s a bit of a stretch.

Android Market filters mature content but has one fatal flaw

Among the many, many, changes to the Android Market announced in recent weeks, Android users can now personalize their Market by filtering out apps marked as mature. Turning on app ratings will then block Android apps that have a maturity rating higher than the setting that a user chooses (Everyone, Low, Medium, or High).

Android Market filtering is great, but the problem is that it relies on developers to be honest and accurately rate their apps. Considering how many developers cheat search results by putting in keywords that have absolutely nothing to do with their app, trusting devs to be honest seems silly. That’s as crazy as letting the banking industry police itself.

I grow tired of seeing “Sexy Girl” wallpaper apps every time I search for new Android apps, so I set my Android Market to only show apps available to “Everyone.” But instead of blocking all of the crappy sexy apps, Everyone merely dropped the number of those apps from to 1,164 to 182. It’s good to see a decline that steep, but 182 is still a large number of offensive apps trickling into what should be a mature-free browsing experience.

Gingerbread Test Build for ThunderBolt Leaked

A buggy test build of Android 2.3 Gingerbread appears to have been leaked from our favorite source for all things HTC oddity: 911HTC! They’ve got a big fat build by the name of Mecha GINGERBREAD S Verizon WWE 2.01.605.0_ Radio_0.01.69.0501r_ _NV_8K_1.41_ 9K_1.64_test_190987.zip – all that make sense to you? It doesn’t have to! All you need to know is that Gingerbread is more than likely on its way to Verizon’s HTC ThunderBolt, and by the looks of it, it’s coming soon!

Before we continue I’ve of course got to warn you that ROMs in test stages such as this are often beyond buggy to the point where should you use them you really ought to prepare yourself for something rather broken. Be sure to back up your current build if you plan on working with this one,

Verizon to activate new 4G LTE markets on May 19th

Verizon Wireless announced on Monday that it will activate its blazing fast 4G LTE service in Pensacola, Tallahassee, and Gainesville Florida; Montgomery and Mobile, Alabama; Fayetteville-Lumberton, North Carolina, and in and around Philadelphia on May 19th. Verizon currently offers two 4G LTE phones, the HTC ThunderBoltand the Samsung DROID Charge, two USB modems, and two 4G LTE mobile hotspots. Samsung Exhibit 4G hits T-Mobile June 8

We first heard about the Samsung Exhibit 4G a few weeks ago and it looks like we’ll be seeing the mid-range offering hitting T-Mobile shelves on June 8. Dealer price is set at $325, but you’ll be paying less (and note the $50 rebate).

The Exhibit 4G features a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, 3MP rear camera, VGA front-facing camera and is also HSPA+ capable; it will be able to reach speeds exceeding 21mbps.

Will the AT&T Attain, Verizon Function, and Sprint Within be the US versions of the Galaxy S II?

When the original Samsung Galaxy S phone came to the U.S., it was branded as the Verizon Fascinate, AT&T Captivate, T-Mobile Vibrant, U.S. Cellular Mesmerize and the Cellular South Showcase. Is it any surprise that the same thing is going to happen all over again for the new Galaxy S II. For some reason the Fascinate 2 or Captivate 2 is just not good enough.

An online web store has a listing for a silicon gel case that’s compatible with the generic Samsung Galaxy S II, but also lists Attain (AT&T), Function (Verizon), and Within (Sprint).

Get ready for the bloatware and other tweaks from the U.S. carriers. It  will also be interesting to see if NFC makes it over on any of the U.S. versions.

iPhone 5 Launches November 21st, Says UK Phone Retailer

Conventional wisdom has held that the next iPhone won’t ship until September, at Apple’s annual iPod event. That’s three months later than Apple’s historic iPhone release cycles would suggest.

If the idea of waiting an extra three months for your next phone gets your blood boiling, though, it might get even worse: one report is now suggesting that the next iPhone won’t ship until November 21st.
